Bio

Katie is an Edmonton-based saxophonist, woodwind doubler and arranger/composer. Born and raised in Halifax Nova Scotia, Katie’s maritime roots are very important to her and have been a great influence and inspiration to her music. 

 

After graduating from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Music (Performance) in 2012 Katie continued her studies in Jazz performance and arranging/composition at Humber College. Katie has had the opportunity to study with Pat LaBarbera, Alex Dean, Chris Mitchell, Rick Waychesko, Gord Sheard and John Macleod. Katie has performed with esteemed musicians Mike Stern, The New York Voices, Daniel Jamieson, Alex Dean, Hilario Duran and the Victoria Symphony. Katie currently works with The Royal Canadian Artillery Band of the Canadian Armed Forces.

 

Katie has a love for writing and arranging music and she has developed a very unique sound with influences drawn from Jazz, Classical and Celtic genres. Currently you can hear many of her arrangements and compositions on her SoundCloud.

 

Katie is known as an extremely versatile musician comfortable playing on many instruments in many genres.  In addition to performing Katie has a passion for teaching and has a great deal of experience teaching 1-on-1 lessons as well as master classes and group lessons.
